The Kings Arms Hotel is one of the oldest establishments in Lockerbie, dating from the 17th Century. From 26th March 2006 The Kings Arms became a non-smoking building in line with new Scottish Law Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed here in 1745 and Sir Walter Scott in 1813. The hotel has catered for weary travellers since the times when horse drawn coaches would pass through the wide passageway to the stable beyond (the undercover parking area today). The original beamed buildings and tack room are now the comfortable Lounge Bar and Buccaneer Restaurant, where today's guests can enjoy tasty Bar meals beside blazing log fires or choose from our Table d'hote and a La Carte menus. When travelling north on the M74, take Junction 18. When travelling south on the M74, take Junction 17 for Lockerbie and head for the town centre. The hotel is on the High Street. Local Attractions : •  Robert Burns House (10.69 Miles) - Robert Burns house is situated in a quiet street in Dumfries. It was here that Robert Burns spent the last three years of his short life; he died here in 1796. The house retains much of its 18th-century character and contains many fascinating items connected with Scotland's national poet. There is the desk and chair in which he wrote his last works including the famous Kilmarnock and Edinburgh editions of his work. This is the house where the poet died in 1976. Each year Scots and lovers of Burns' poetry everywhere celebrate Burns night on or around his birthday on 25th January •  Burns Mausoleum (10.66 Miles) - The mausoleum is in the form of a Greek temple, and contains the tombs of Robert Burns, his wife Jean Armour, and their five sons. A sculptured group shows the Muse of Poetry flinging her cloak over Burns at the plough. •  Savings Banks Museum (9.18 Miles) - Housed in the building where Savings Banks first began, the museum traces their growth and development from 1810 up to the present day. The museum also traces the life of Dr Henry Duncan, father of savings banks, and restorer of the Ruthwell Cross. Two faces show scenes from the Life of Christ; the others show scroll work, and parts of an ancient poem in Runic characters.
