Lockerbie Manor dates from 1750 and was built in the Georgian style for Sir William Douglas and Dame Grace Johnstone. It is believed that in this house, their great grandson John Sholto Douglas, the 8th Marquis of Queensberry, finished creating the present day Queensberry Rules of boxing.

Travelling from the South, take Junction 17 on the m74 (second exit marked Lockerbie). Travelling from the North, take Junction 17 (the first exit marked Lockerbie). The hotel is clearly signposted from the roundabout at the motorway exit, by brown tourist signs.

• Robert Burns House (11.26 Miles) - Robert Burns house is situated in a quiet street in Dumfries. It was here that Robert Burns spent the last three years of his short life; he died here in 1796. The house retains much of its 18th-century character and contains many fascinating items connected with Scotland's national poet. There is the desk and chair in which he wrote his last works including the famous Kilmarnock and Edinburgh editions of his work. This is the house where the poet died in 1976. • Robert Burns Centre (11.54 Miles) - This award-winning centre explores the connections between Robert Burns and the town of Dumfries. Situated in the town's 18th-century watermill, the centre tells the story of Burns' last years spent in the busy streets and lively atmosphere of Dumfries in the late 18th century. The exhibitions include original manuscripts, a scale model of Dumfries in the 1790's and an audi-video presentation.
